Hello! Welcome to my blog where I’m usually talking (a lot) about the inspiration behind a particular piece of work and I know you’re going to love this skyline. The amazing Blackpool is so wonderful and so worth talking about; I love it. This was a joy to work on.
First of all, here are three things you need to know about Blackpool:
1. Blackpool is a seaside town lying on the Irish Sea coast in Lancashire, England; it has been a seaside resort since 1780. It is named after the more prominent spits and sand hills rather than the colour, although Blackpool sands are a blue-grey colour. The beach is the largest in the UK.
2. Best known for its tower, Blackpool Tower. It was opened to the public in 1894. The tower stands 170 m (558 ft) high and the dome at the top can be seen from miles around. It is now a Grade I listed building.
3. The name for the town was first recorded as Aldbrough around the year 1400. The modern name was brought back in 1604 when King James VI and I granted a charter to Blackpool. Within an area of 14km there are 127 streets and roads.
Blackpool is probably one of the happiest places I’ve drawn, when I visited it was a non stop laugh. It is a great place to visit. There’s something for everyone, whether you want to be by the pier or the seaside. It has plenty of attractions that you’ll never forget. When I sat down to design the Blackpool skyline I wanted to create a detailed illustration of Blackpool filled with all the elements I remember from my visits, elements that we all love.
The aim is to transport you to the glorious north west of England with this hand drawn pen and ink skyline which features landmarks such as Blackpool Tower, The Winter Gardens, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Sandcastle Waterpark and Blackpool Sands and the rollercoaster.
SO, let me introduce you to The Blackpool skyline. A postcard view of this magical city and part of my skyline series:
It’s a giclee art print which means it won’t fade, makes the most thoughtful gift and a treasured keepsake.
