Illustration Now! puts forward groundbreaking illustration work and focuses on leading illustrators. I’ve chosen two illustrators within the book to critique, focusing on style, technique and content. New York based Paul Hoppe has produced many cityscapes in a variety of medium and clients include The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, American Express and IBM. “Whether it’s an editorial illustration a comic or a children’s book, I like telling stories with drawings, and imaging locations and atmosphere” (Hoppe, 2014). I’m drawn to Hoppe’s visual language and the story within the story he seems to present.
“Sometimes a bit shy, the illustrator has been leaving his or her lair to meet peers, admirers and idols, in worldwide sketch-crawls, at comics conventions, lectures and debates, figure-drawing sessions or just for a beer. Hopefully to get another illustration in the making“. (Weidemann 2011).
