Tree-Scrapers
I’m reading ‘Stefano Boeri’ to give me a greater understanding of the social issues within architecture, looking at what could be interpreted as fantasy schemes. Stefano Boeri is a monograph from the series “Architecture and Design Lessons” and describes his most important, starting from the 90s. It includes a study of Vertical ForestING, a trend generated by the first vertical forest built by Boeri in 2014. The concept of Vertical ForestING aims to provide sustainable high-density housing and office space in urban areas whilst serving to depollute the surrounding environment by filtering dust particles from the air and absorbing carbon dioxide.
Boeri developed Bosco Verticale as a prototype of the skyscrapers of the future in an attempt to slow down the climate change, reducing CO2 emissions and making our habitat in harmony with nature.
The concept of Vertical ForestING is not as fantastical as one would first think and is a functional solution to the issues within many contemporary cities.
